Systech is seeking to hire a Head of Compliance and Training for Expert Services.
This is a key new role in the business and a unique opportunity for someone who has successfully acted as the lead delay or quantum expert for construction disputes, but perhaps is now looking for a change of pace, a more flexible environment, and an opportunity to share their expertise with others.
The role covers both hands-on expert and managerial duties across our global regions from expert assignment delivery, mentoring/training, compliance, conflict management, and governance.
The individual will help establish our forward-looking strategy for Systech Expert Services and be responsible for the delivery of the associated objectives with regular reporting to the Board.
A key aspect of the role will be to support our cross regional and coordinated services delivery philosophy, and in particular work closely with our internal legal practice, Systech Law, on the implementation of initiatives for expanding joint assignments and training.
Responsibilities and duties
Hands-on expert:
- Managing expert assignments as the lead testifying expert Writing the final draft of the expert report
- Testifying and being cross-examined based on your evidence in formal dispute proceedings
- Setting clear and concise instructions for members of the delay or quantum team for carrying out detailed analysis
- Giving detailed and expert advice to clients on disputes related matters
- Management:
- Risk management
- Conflict management and avoidance
- Establishment and ongoing delivery of strategic plan for expert services
- Compliance
- Advising senior experts on a range of matters development of junior members of the team
Desired skills and experience
- Experience working for a leading construction consultancy (preferably in a leadership position)
- Have testified as the lead expert in a formal arbitration or litigation (or similar equivalent)
- Ideally, you will have been cross-examined and participated in hot tubbing sessions
- Have demonstrable experience of writing expert reports for disputes
- The ability to manage small teams of internal and external staff effectively
- Passionate about the industry and want to give something back
- Happy to work remotely with occasional international travel
Qualifications requirements
- Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS)
- A quantity surveying, civil engineering or cost management degree or similar equivalent
- MSc Construction Law or similar postgraduate construction law qualification preferred
