Systech to present on NEC4 and collaborative contracting to industry association in Japan

26TH JUNE 2026

Systech will be presenting a seminar to the Engineering Advancement Association of Japan (ENAA) on 17 July 2026.   The seminar, which will be presented by Ian Huggett and Shingo Ohno from our Japan team, is a sequel to an event delivered to ENAA last year that explored the challenges arising from conventional lump sum contracts and alternative procurement approaches.

The previous Systech seminar attracted around 600 attendees, demonstrating the strong level of interest in this topic within the Japanese engineering and construction sector.   Ian and Shingo will introduce the New Engineering Contract (NEC4), which has been adopted on a number of projects in Japan and is increasingly being considered for wider application.

The seminar will explain the operation of target cost and cost reimbursable contracts and introduce the concept of collaborative contracting, through which clients and contractors can identify, share and manage risks at an early stage, reduce uncertainty and help minimise the potential for disputes and impacts on project delivery.   Systech has been supporting Japanese contractors for over 25 years and has extensive experience in the application of NEC contracts and collaborative contracting approaches on projects around the world.
